During the week, students spend forty hours with their classmates and teachers. During these hours it is the teachers responsibility to assure not only the students they are in good hands but, the parents. Having this website allows students and parents to get a quick overview of their child’s teacher. Allowing parents to see my credentials, what I expect from my students, classroom management style, and what I expect from myself can allow the parents to get a glimpse of what happens inside the classroom. Parents need to feel that their child is in competent and safe hands, producing a family-friendly safe teaching website allows parents to get a sense of security.
ILLINOIS PROFESSIONAL TEACHING STANDARDS are guidelines of what is acceptable and what a good teacher can and cannot do. These standards have indicators that expresses what the competent teacher is. By defining these standards of teaching diverse students, content area and pedagogical knowledge, planning for differentiated instruction, learning environment, professionalism, leadership, and advocacy, collaborative relationships, assessment, reading, writing, and oral communication, and instructional delivery, allows me to see what a competent teacher looks like. With each page of my website devoted to a standard, this gives the opportunity for me to get a full sense of truly meeting these standards.
Continuing to add on to this website is an exciting thing. I am excited to add to my list of resources, and classroom rules, to really see what works and doesn’t work. Continuing to go to workshops, reading studies, and building the tools on my tool belt will only benefit myself and the students that I will teach. Figuring out what can work and what can’t will be a complicated but resourceful experience. This website has made me think of the tools and the style of teacher I want to be.
